A stunning hand forged san mai chef knife . The core is 1.3520 ( bearing steel) with 18 layer damascus (1084/15n20) as a cladding. There is also a thin layer of nickel between the layers . San mai is a Japanese sword making technique that allows for a hard steel core that stays sharp and the softer jacket either side allowing for some flexibility.
The full tang handle is made from stabilised amboyna burl timber with copper pins
Blade length is 187 mm ( 7 3/8 inches) and its 43mm deep at the heel. overall length is 310 mm . The handle is 125mm long, a 20 mm wide, 21 mm deep, The spine is 2.7 mm wide near the handle tapering to under 1mm near the tip , weight is 160 gm nice balance
